Comercio IA: reglas chilenas para las compras que hacen los asistentes de IA

AI assistants already buy for people
ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude no longer just recommend products. They can search an online store, build a cart and take the person to pay. Meta has also launched Muse, its personal agent, which makes purchases with the person's approval in the United States and other countries. Muse is not yet available in Chile.
For an assistant to buy from any store, the assistant and the store need to understand each other. That is what open standards are for: free, public rules anyone can follow, like the format of an electronic invoice.
The standards they use
There are two main standards for the purchase itself. Google and Shopify published the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), and OpenAI and Stripe published the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP). Meta sits on UCP's technical council.
Other standards cover other parts of the purchase. The Personal Agent Protocol (PAP), which Meta published with Sierra, defines how an agent signs in to a store and what it may do for the person. Google's Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) defines how the person authorizes the payments their agent makes. Both are still drafts.
What they lack to sell in Chile
These standards were designed for the United States. They don't ask for a boleta or factura (the tax receipts issued through Chile's tax service, the SII), don't tell the buyer about the right of withdrawal or the legal warranty, don't issue credit notes when something is returned, and don't know Webpay, Mercado Pago, Getnet or Khipu.
That matters for a Chilean store, because a sale made by an AI assistant carries the same obligations as any other sale. The store has to issue the tax document, the buyer has to know their rights before paying, and the payment has to arrive through a method that works in Chile.
What Comercio IA is
Comercio IA is an open extension of UCP and ACP. An extension is an addition to a standard for a case the standard doesn't cover. It doesn't replace UCP or ACP; it adds what a sale in Chile needs:
• The SII boleta or factura. The assistant asks for it when it creates the purchase, and the order comes back with the document's number and its status at the SII.
• The legal notices: who is selling, the right of withdrawal and the legal warranty. The store gives them to the assistant so it shows them to the buyer before paying.
• Credit notes, for every return or withdrawal.
• Chilean payment methods: Webpay Plus, Mercado Pago, Getnet and Khipu, plus a proposal for Oneclick Mall.
An assistant that doesn't know the extension yet keeps working, and the legal notices still reach it.
Comercio IA is free and uses the Apache-2.0 license, the same as UCP and ACP. Any store, e-commerce platform or AI assistant can use it without asking permission. We lead it at Pintor Project, and the full specification is at comercioia.cl, in Spanish and English.
What it means for a store
If you run an online store, you don't have to write any code. Comercio IA would be implemented by your e-commerce platform or your payment provider.
When an assistant buys from your store using the extension, the sale is still yours. The payment goes to your store's account, as it does today, and you issue the boleta or factura with your usual system. What changes is that the assistant knows how to ask for the right document and show the buyer what the law requires.
If you want to get ready, you can ask your platform to review the proposal.
Open for comments until 30 November
The current version is an open proposal. Before the stable release, planned for January 2027, we want stores, platforms, payment providers and developers working in Chile to review it.
You can comment until 30 November 2026 in two ways: by opening an issue in the public repository github.com/Pintor-Project/comercioia, or by writing to contacto@comercioia.cl if you don't use GitHub. Every comment gets an answer.
If you'd like to read it, the specification and the press information are at comercioia.cl.
Comercio IA is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, Shopify, OpenAI, Stripe, Transbank, Mercado Pago, Getnet, Khipu, the SII or SERNAC; trademarks belong to their owners.
